Investing in online lead generation is something which any wise entrepreneur should consider in boosting any local business’ profit and productivity. But what is lead generation? Lead generation is simply the act of making prospective customers interested to avail of your goods and/or services. When someone visits your store, a salesperson tries to sell products to this prospective customer by talking about the pros of purchasing that certain good. Online lead generation is similar to what that salesperson does only that it works non-stop.
Online lead generation basically renders the saying “working while you’re sleeping” true. Because it costs less than having a live person do the work round-the-clock, online lead generation has become a mainstay in most local businesses. List building and loyalty programs are just two of the methods employed for lead generation. One must understand though that there are a lot of pitfalls in lead generation.
Red Flag # 1: Spammy Content
Spam has become some sort of a buzzword when it comes to anything related to the internet. There are certain things which immediately alert any person that what he or she is reading is spam. One of the glaring signs is bad grammar and incoherently written content. This is why it is extremely crucial that you post only content which isn’t just grammatically correct but also has a logical flow of thoughts. Be vigilant against misspelled words, and key words and key phrases which are repeated for the nth time. Make your website original and creative. And stay away from redundancy.
Red Flag # 2: Over-selling
People are instantly repelled by salespersons that are so aggressive with their pitches. Although you always like to commend these people for putting a hundred percent into their sales pitches, subtlety is the way to win prospective customer over when it comes to online lead generation. Instead of right away telling them to purchase a product, build rapport with them. Without mentioning your product, talk to them about the benefits of purchasing something which is related to your good. You can talk about your product’s active ingredients and why these things are beneficial. And then make the subtle connection towards the end. By earning your prospects’ trust first, you won’t have to worry about selling them anything anymore.
Red Flag # 3: Techy Jargons
Your customers are average reasonable people. Although they have a general idea of the things which you are selling, they have no idea as to what the technical terms for these things are. In order for you to communicate with them properly, you need to go down to their level. Get rid of the technical jargons and come up with content that is easy to understand. That’s what the thesaurus is for.
